On 1 June 2015, Help Our Community Club (HOCC) led a charity trip to the Poor People and Orphaned Children Organization in Kandal Prov-ince. There were around 40 participants from both HOCC members and students from the University of Cambodia. The trip was conducted to celebrate the International Children’s Day and to meet and play with children at the organization. We organized some activities with children such as painting, hygiene promotion, and discussion on their studies. At the end of the day, we distributed some study materials, used clothes, and other logistic support to them.
Mr. Neng Vannak, HOCC’s Chairman, said that, “Today is a special day for HOCC members and friends to meet with the most-needy children at this organization, and to share our happiness and kind donation to them. This event enabled all participants to understand more about social work, and encour-aged them to study hard and bring their knowledge and experience to help society after their graduation.”
Besides the event with local children, the HOCC Board of Directors also briefed all participants on how to write a cover letter and CV to apply for their jobs and some useful tips for job interviews after they are short-listed.
Help Our Community Club (HOCC) was officially founded on 15 October 2014. The club was created after Mr Neng Vannak, students and alumni of University of Cambodia (UC), and their friends organized study tours and charity missions to some historical sites and local non-governmental organiza-tions (NGOs) and communities in Takeo, Kep and Kampong Speu provinces. Mr. Neng Vannak decided to formalize the community service activities and create the Help Our Community Club.
Its vision is to improve the existing condi-tions of our poor and vulnerable communities. The mission of HOOC is to encourage local communities, including children, high school students and university students, to focus on their studies. The club’s core value is to provide study materials to local children, and to share good advice, knowledge and experiences with high school and university students to better the quality of their education.
