In a world engaged upon the process of globalization, it is easy to forget that the building blocks of what we see around us tend to be our cultures, our histories, our art and our literatures. Preserving an understanding of these subjects is vitally important, if we are to continue to value cultural diversity and retain our essential humanity.
Thus, the disciplines in the College of Arts, Humanities and Languages have been a traditional cornerstone of higher education in all of the world’s civilizations. Gaining an appreciation of the Arts and Humanities, either in general terms, or through the study of one specific academic area, helps us understand our present circumstances. Subjects such as literature and history are essential in understanding our modern situation and challenges, helping us to understand problems and identify solutions, based on solid and well thought out principles. The Arts and Humanities are about life – past life, present life and the development of future life. Examining these issues is both rewarding and directly relevant to personal learning and growth.
Graduates in the Arts and Humanities remain sought after by employers in both Cambodia and the world. They are valued for their transferable skills that serve them well in a broad variety of careers. These skills include excellent communication skills, the ability to analyze intelligently, a qualitative approach to issues and problems and the ability to work unsupervised individually or as part of a team. Perhaps the most valued quality of the Arts and Humanities graduate is the ability to be creative.
1. DEGREE OFFERINGS
Students in the College of Arts, Humanities and Languages can do a Bachelor of Arts degree in one of the following subjects:

2. ADMISSION AND DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
In order to be admitted to study for a Bachelor’s degree, an applicant must have a high school diploma or an equivalent; and take and pass the University of Cambodia Undergraduate Entrance Examination (under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport) and the University of Cambodia English Placement Exam.
New students must spend their first year fulfilling the Foundation Year Program’s requirements, as specified by the Accreditation Committee of Cambodia: this comprises eight General Education courses and two oriented subjects related to the student’s major. A student must pass the Foundation Year in order to proceed into the second year programme.
In addition to the Foundation Year and other General Education requirements set by the University of Cambodia, Bachelor’s degree candidates in the College of Arts, Humanities and Languages are required to take a minimum of a further 48 credit hours (the equivalent of sixteen courses) in their respective major. The remaining balance of credits are obtained by doing electives outside the major.
3. ASIAN STUDIES
The Asian Studies program at the University of Cambodia offers courses in most of the disciplines of the social sciences and the humanities, with an emphasis on their regional – East Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia – context. The program also offers a concentration in Southeast Asian Studies and Cambodian Studies, for students who want to take a more in-depth view of particular regions. In this way, students gain insights into Cambodia and its place in a regional context, in terms of the area's broad socio-cultural and economic diversity; and thus insights into how to foster and nurture beneficial relations with our neighbours.
Apart from fulfilling the Foundation Year and General Education requirements, students doing a Bachelor’s degree in Asian Studies must take the other three major core courses (9 credits), along with thirteen major elective courses (39 credits). Of the remaining eleven elective courses (33 credits) which the student must take, up to a maximum of six courses (18 credits) can be from within the same College

4. ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
In addition to fulfilling the Foundation Year and General Education requirements set by the University of Cambodia, students doing a Bachelor’s degree in English, must o a minimum of 54 relevant credit hours in English: ENG101 and ENG102 are both part of the General Education requirements, and thus cannot be counted towards the major. In order to fulfill the Bachelor’s degree requirements in English, students must take the four core courses ENG105-ENG108 (12 credits), along with fourteen major elective courses (42 credits). Of the other eleven elective courses (33 credits) which the student must take, up to a maximum of six courses (18 credits) can be from within the same major.

5. JOURNALISM
The Journalism program at the University of Cambodia prepares students to be writers, reporters and editors for various media: newspapers and magazines, radio, television and the internet. The program aims to produce broadly educated and ethical professionals who will eventually assume decision-making and leadership roles.
Apart from fulfilling the Foundation Year and General Education requirements, students doing a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, must take the other core course (3 credits), along with thirteen major elective courses (39 credits), and an Internship module and a Special Projects module (3 credits each).
